New York Resident vs. Local Police Precinct

A woman in New York who has twins was shot 3 times by her ex-boyfriend after her local precinct gave her a temporary order of protection. Claims that a police officer on her case made reckless decisions (with her trusting that he would keep her safe), was the reason why her ex-boyfriend  was able to shoot her when she tried to leave her apartment with her two children. The Jury did come back with a verdict in favor of of the Plaintiff.

The jury specifically determined that the police had acted in
a reckless manner, which recklessness would preclude an
apportionment between the city and the assailant under
CPLR Art. 16. They then awarded $9,900,000, including
$250,000 for past medical costs, $180,000 for future medical
costs, $3,000,000 for past pain and suffering.
$5,000,000 for future pain and suffering (over 40 years) and
$750,000 for past pain and suffering to each of the children.
We are concerned about everyone and their safety, that is why many of us locksmiths have become locksmiths.  We would just like for all people to know that if Police precincts fail to do their jobs, that you don’t have to be the only ones to suffer the consequences of their actions – and if something like this happens to you, take action. And we surely hope that this family that has suffered a very traumatic event can grow passed it.

High Security Lock Rekeys

Before you go out and buy a new High Security Lock, it may be very useful for you to know that some high security locks cannot be rekeyed, some can, and some have requirements that you should take into consideration before purchasing from just any locksmith company. We’re are only going to be looking just a few of high security locks so that you can get an idea of what you should be looking at for when you do buy a high security lock.

Medeco High Security Locks

Medeco High Security Locks can only be rekeyed if you go to the locksmith that installed your lock. They have a control key that will allow them to rekey it. If you go to a different locksmith that didn’t install your lock, they cannot rekey it. If your locksmith that installed your lock is no longer in business then you will need to install a new lock.

Mul-T-Lock High Security Locks

Mul-T-Lock High Security Locks cannot be rekeyed. If you have lost key control you should definitely replace your locks. There are many benefits to having a lock that cannot be rekeyed, but if you tend to have ever changing employees – it may be a good idea to use a high security lock that can be rekeyed – which saves you much more money.

Schlage High Security Locks

Schlage High Security Locks can be rekeyed and do not require anything to do so. Probably a good idea to use a lock like this, since it doesn’t require anything to be rekeyed – especially if you do have a decent turnover in your business, or lose your keys often. Whatever your reason for needing a lock to be easily rekeyed – this lock may be a very good choice for you.

———————

There are many reasons why a high security lock being able to be rekeyed or not could benefit you and your security. This is something that you should think about before making any purchase.

Avoid Having to Call Us!

What did they just say?

That’s right, we said it. Avoid Calling Us. We run a business – working on lockouts, replacing or fixing locks, etc. Thing is, we just get too many calls. Many people spend money that could have been saved just because they didn’t take preventive measures. You can’t prevent brain farts, but you can help prevent hardware failure. Of course, we’re talking strictly lockouts, since that happens to be a good source of incoming calls.

- That’s right, you aren’t alone. And quite frankly, lockouts occur many times. Did we say, many times?

How many people get locked out of their home because their lock failed to work mechanically? A fair share of people find themselves faced with this emergency. Good news is that you can do something to minimize the chance of it happening to you.

The Gist

Locks are mechanical devices, they have pieces that move. Locks are bound to take on some wear and tear, leading to breaking down. So how can you extend the life of your lock?

Quality is Important

The quality of your lock is essential to how long your lock will work. You must have a durable lock, one that can handle the weather and daily use. If you don’t already have one, then you should begin your search by finding high quality lock manufacturers. High prices does NOT mean it’s a sign of high durability. Do some research on the products you are looking at. Do not buy anything that you aren’t 100% sure about!

Maintain Your Investment

It’s highly important that you maintain your locks. This does not mean that you have to call a locksmith several times a year just to have it maintained. Although, you should call a locksmith if you find that it’s not working the way it should. A really quick and easy way to maintain your locks is by lubricating it. Most people have WD-40 in their home for other uses, use it for your locks too. Just stick the straw into the keyhole and spray it. There are other lubricants that you can use. Lubricants will not harm your lock in any way, it will strictly keep the moving parts in the lock moving efficiently. If you find that some excess lubricant is coming out of the keyhole, just simply wipe it off. It’s no big deal!

So there you have it folks. Please do yourselves a favor and follow this advice, you maybe saving yourself much more money than you would have ever thought. Until next time, be safe and be happy. Have a wonderful day everyone.

One of our more popular services besides the standard lock-outs are re-keys. Re-keying is a perfect way ro protect your home against unwanted intruders. When our technicians deal with a re-key job, they are technically creating a new lock out of an old lock. Using the same lock that is already install the technician will create a new slot for the new set of keys to fit in. This can be helpful in many situations. One of most popular reasons for such a service is when tenants move in and out of apartments. This is a way to insure that the last person who lived in the place will not be able to get back in, even if they have made new keys or created key copies.

This type of sevice is a great way to keep out anyone you may not want on the property.

Choosing a locksmith is very tough in New York City.  There are a lot of people to choose from.  So, be a smart shopper, read reviews.  Also, avoid all the locksmiths that are using map hijacking.  They do this by taking a restaurants local online map listing and using it for their mobile locksmith service.  This doens’t mean they don’t provide locksmith service, but it does take away from their credibility
